Ok so I wrote it so I'm going to think it's pretty damn good.
Primal: Origin and Primal: Unleashed are the first two novels from reasonably recent-to-the-scene thriller author, Jack Silkstone. Essentially these are special forces, action adventure tales in the vein of Chris Ryan or Andy McNab.Silkstone’s elite team bypasses the rigid directives issued by Western governments and their intelligence agencies hamstring their operatives on the ground because of various conflicting political agendas. So our heroes instead chose to be employed by Primal, a priva [...]
“PRIMAL Origin” is a prequel to “PRIMAL Unleashed”, and chronologically the first book in Jack Silkstone's PRIMAL series. It unveils the events and circumstances which lead to creation of PRIMAL, an organization of ex-military operators, who got tired of following political agendas of their governments and decided to start serving justice on their own. It's not a full-length book, but rather a novelette. The plot is simple, but original and the story is a quick and easy read.If you alrea [...]
I am a fan of this genre and lament the fact that it is in a downswing. Probably due to the fact America is currently at war. Jack Silkstone writes this genre well. There is an authenticity that leaps off the page. The prose is tight and the descriptions are not overdone, just enough to put you in the scene and get on with the action, and there's plenty of action packed into this short. The testosterone level is high. You could fuel the entire Tour de France peleton with the testosterone in this [...]
Not bad for a short story. It serves the purpose of introducing the reader to the beginnings of the Primal team, hence the title Primal Origins. If a person is a reader of Vince Flynn's Rapp series, or Alex Berenson's John Wells series, then this might be of interest to you.
"To Much stop and go-Good Story bad Narration"What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? The storyline was good and the action was enough to keep the read/listener entertained throughout. But what I had to knock off stars for the choppy narration. I am not clear as to why the narration was so choppy whether it was part of the direction or the pattern of the narrators voice. How could the performance have been better?I felt the narration was choppy and a whole lot of sto [...]
Great action!!I thought the book moved at a quick pace. It never seemed to bog down on details you didn't need. I would try the next one in the series. If you want to read an action packed book I would give this. Book a try.
Terrific🙋 Great series so far! The camaraderie between the characters was so wonderful. Vance, Bishop, Mitch, and Ice are the heroes out to save the world from evil. They're charming, deadly, and funny as hell. The scene where Ice and Bishop have to escape a deadly situation by way of a Prius ( only car available) had me LMAO! 😂 My favorite character is Ice, love him! 💕💜 Primal Origin is a terrific book. Lots of action! Lots of bad guys! Lots of weapons! Lots of laughs! Plus four won [...]
Very entertaining. Like the premise. Great characters.
A short story, not much to review. The story is a little too simplified and reads like a bad TV show. If I continue on this series I can only hope there is more meat to the writing.
Origin of Primal. Action story. B
A thrillerI love fast action books about Black Ops soldiers and heroes and this is a good one. On to book 2
Bad guys don't stand a chance with VanceI've always been a big fan of Tom Clancy, Eric VonLustbader and Ian Fleming. Vance is a tough no-nonsense commander. Duty and honor are important but he's also a maverick and is intent on getting things done his way on his terms. Along for the ride on his squad are Ice, Mitch and Chua. Set in the Middle East, Silkstone's descriptions are breathtaking and harrowing as they edge deeper into danger. I enjoyed this book a lot and will look more into the series [...]
I came across this novella purely by chance through the medium of social media. I was attracted to this story since as a youth, I used to enjoy reading action-thriller novels and, like the author, enjoyed playing first-person perspective 80s and 90s arcade games like 'Operation Thunderbolt', 'Wolfenstein' and more recently games like 'Call of Duty' and 'Frontline Commando'.On reading this adventure I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised. Despite the odd tongue-in-cheek reference to the A-Team, [...]
Take two CIA agents, a British aeronautical engineer/weapons technician, drop them in Abu Dhabi with a group of terrorists, each wanting the other dead and you have a pacy, action packed novella introducing the Primal series of books. Primal Origin, is a great little novella that gives the background to how the undercover anti-all-things-bad group, PRIMAL, came into being.Realistic dialogue, not for those who are easily offended, the CIA agents Vance and Ice are quickly introduced; a couple of c [...]
Primal Origin is a short story that reads like a prequel for a longer work, or perhaps the intro to a serialized novel. The basics of the plot are that Vance and Ice, two CIA operatives and former soldiers are in the UAE, tracking a potential terrorist cell. Their efforts have been frustrated by all the red-tape put in place by US officials who are more interested in the flow of oil than in terrorist plots. But things come quickly to a head when a key piece of information falls in their lap.The [...]
This short story by Author Jack Silkstone (no relation to me) is an introduction to his full-length novel, "Primal--Unleashed." The author is well experienced with his background in military intelligence and special operations. In this prequel, CIA Agent Vance is at the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi to speak with the ambassador. Vance stands strongly as the disgruntled ambassador accuses Vance of not being discreet in his operation as Vance is informed of his now being a terrorist target. The ambass [...]
This book is a good primer for the PRIMAL series. It introduces us nicely to the characters, is quick and enjoyable in it's plot, and overall a fun book that doesn't take itself extremely seriously. The book is a bit short, at times it left me wishing that the author had spent more time developing the storyline and the characters but overall I found this OK as a "Novella" or short story. This book's goal is to introduce us to PRIMAL, to the characters and to show us a first mission for the charac [...]
Silkstone gave me what I wanted with this story. I've read some other authors that I've talked to and I didn't really expect too much from him but he surprised me with being a good writer. It was serious most times and had funny bits that were needed. I can't really say why I gave it three stars, I just felt like it was missing something, although I can't think of what. It is a short story/novella so maybe I just wanted more background about the characters that I'll hopefully find in the novel. [...]
A team of American Special Forces operating clandestinely in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, sounded interesting; the decision to read the novella was also bolstered by a host of decent reviews. What followed was a laughable attempt at writing an action novel. Disjointed prose, juvenile plotting, and action sequences worse than the dumbest Hollywood movies, made this short novella a torture to finish. I have countless words for the author, but I'd settle for just two pieces o [...]
The author claims to have a background in Military Intelligence, Counter-Intelligence and Special Operations. I'm inclined to believe the claim, partly because it feels like the author has written a story based on what he'd like to see happen. I dare say every intelligence operative in the world would like the chance to work without rules, to be able to kill the people they know are guilty without having to find concrete evidence, etc. This book feels like the author has taken that and written a [...]
I'm not sure what to think of this novel. On one hand the novel could easily have been incorperated into a few chapters of the next work in the series as it was too short to constitute a proper story but could have been a good start to the subsequent novel. On the other hand the story was fastpaced and slightly captivating. I will read the next book in the series without a clear idea of what to expect from the author. I think it is fair to give the author another chance to show he can create a t [...]
Great novella! If you want tough guys with guns who blow up things and beat the heck out of bad guys, this is for you. Vance leads a team of sharpshooters and specialists to take down villains. With access to tons of money, there's no expense when it comes to gadgets and espionage. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This is a short story, as an introduction to a new series. A special ops team, along the lines of the A Team, is formed to fight corruption and terrorists. Vance and Ice are a CIA team, told to stand down there pursuit of a terrorist cell. Going against orders, PRIMAL team is born. A good introduction and has potential, looking forward to the first full length book and the team setup.
It's only a very short story, but is the prequel to a new black ops series, called Primal and it certainly delivers with a punch. Engrossed from start to finish (about 30 minutes) but I was so enthralled, I've gone straight into the first of the full length novels, Primal Unleashed. I'm 20% through this and up to now, it's looking like a 5*
Solid beginning to an amazing well written action pack series. The character development is quick, the action is intense, and the details of weapons and equipment is well thought out. Jack will be among the greats of Action-Military written stories that can be read over and over.
Good character development and lots of action!Imagine for a moment an organization whose mission is to deliver justice to evil beings that deserve it. You have just imagined PRIMAL! Looks like a great series!
It was short and sweet. The characters were the type you expect from these kind of novels, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It kept my attention and nothing about it would dissuade me from reading the next book in the series.
A very good story about off the grid seekers of justice. This is another series but this one is complete with each episode. The action takes place in hot spots around the Mid East and takes action when the so called purveyors of right don't do so.
I really enjoyed this book. As soon as I was finished reading this one, I immediately started reading the second book in the series (Primal Unleashed). It grabbed my attention right away and held my interest all the way through to the end and left me wanting more.
