original 2010 review - The boys are hired by Fenton Prentice, who seems to be experiencing a haunting in his apartment and whilst there, they get involved in a robbery. When it later comes to light that what was stolen, a crystal statue of The Carpathian Hound (the invisible dog of the title), belonged to Prentice, the boys have a bigger case to crack. Probably my favourite of the entire series, Carey perfectly captures the mood and atmosphere of the post-Christmas period and her sense of locati [...]

The Three investigators are hounded by supernatural forces as they attempt to recover a stolen sculpture of a legendary wolf-dog.I have read this series a number of times, and still get total enjoyment out of the stories. They are for metimeless.I want to be an honorary member of the group and crawl through tunnel 2 or enter via Red Gate Rover. And sit in the hidden trailer listening to Jupiter regaling the clues of the mystery they are working on.What else can I sayI have loved this series sinc [...]

I have re-read this book multiple times. It's the one I love the most out of the Three Investigators series. Please read this scene, which still makes me laugh (slightly paraphrased):(The protagonists ring the bell to the house)Elmquist: (opens the door) "What? I was sleeping, what do you want?"Jupiter: "You were in the pool!"Elmquist: "No, I wasn't" (a drop of water slides down his face from his wet hair) "I was in the shower"Jupiter: "No, you were in the pool, there are wet footprints leading [...]

This one had quite a few unusual twists. First off, the cover and title were very misleading. I was expecting some type of "ghost dog", but it was actually a crystal sculpture that was just so clear it was invisible (that's not a spoiler, just part of the story.)Also, the idea of astral projection is pretty much taken as fact in this story. I thought it was strange that something supernatural was accepted so easily in the story, but that's pretty much what happened. And also, there's a ghost in [...]

one of the very best in the series .

AH&T3I Update: 23 read, and 5 hardbacks to go (plus 15 paperbacks):I am not as big of a fan of Mary Virginia (M.V.) Carey as I am of series creator Robert Arthur or multi-title series author Dennis Lynds (aka William Arden). For a second time now, she introduces something supernatural and then does not fully explain it. She did that in the Monster Mountain book (#20) and she did it again with the Invisible Dog mystery. So what is the problem with that--the book is after all a piece of fictio [...]

The Mystery of the invisible Dog was a good book but at the same time didn't excite me to keep on reading.

This mystery started out so well! I was prepared to love it all the way through. It had an intriguing cast of characters/suspects, three overlapping mysteries, and historical context that provided some additional depth. Unfortunately, the resolution of the mysteries was rushed and unsatisfying. For me, mystery stories are compelling due to two primary elements: 1. The excitement of solving the mystery alongside the detective(s), sorting through the author's clues to determine whodunnit. 2. The a [...]

In elementary and middle school I read all the Three Investigator books I could lay my hands on. They were an exiting mix of action and intelligence, and kept me hooked more than most other series I encountered at the time.Eventually I moved on, mainly to science fiction, but browsing used books a while ago I came across this story. I figured, why not give it a try, see how well they've stood up to my changing tastes.I read them in the late 90s, they were originally written in the 70s, and I can [...]

The Three Investigators is a juvenile detective series published in the 60s, 70s, and 80s that spans about 43 books. They feature three teenage boys who mostly investigate paranormal type stuff that they debunk (somewhat like Scooby-Doo) or other abnormal crimes that the police do not handle. They report their cases to Alfred Hitchcock or a fake director depending on which versions you read. Their base of operations is hidden away in the depths of a junkyard and it has multiple hidden entrances. [...]

Love these mysteriesAnother good book and loved the price . Well worth reading what ever your age and obviously I have to read it from start to finish without putting it down.

Once again Jupe, Pete and Bob prove their prowess as expert investigators. This time round, their client is haunted by a seemingly invisible visitor who as the story progresses has the capacity to wander around the world while having a perfect alibi-that he was asleep at home. This phenomenon was new to me and I definitely added it to my knowledge bank. One thing I have always loved about the Three Investigators series is that while it enthrals its audience with deceptive culprits and eerie scen [...]

I love the Three Investigators series, but this particular book is not as good as the rest. The crime and the hiding of the stolen dog statue are clever enough (for an MG mystery), but the other books in the series always take a very Holmesian logical view that all things that appear to be supernatural are explained away rational; this book does not. The ending of the book actually leaves the young trio of sleuths believing in some supernatural mumbo-jumbo, which is completely out of character f [...]

Why I Reread This Edition: This is the fourth and last Kindle ebook that showed up in the store. I reread the hardcover in preparation for cleaning up the Kindle edition. Per my other review, this is at least the fourth time I've read this book. This book is full of action, vivid imagery (which illustrator Jack Hearne renders well), and clever plot twists. On this reread, I rate it 10/10 despite the last line. Minor spoiler/warning: If you think parapsychology in a mystery is cheating, you may g [...]

This is the first Three Investigators book that I've ever read. While it wasn't a terrible story, I found it to be rather mediocre. There's also a bit of mysticism in the story, which ties in with the era in which it was published, the 1970s. I'll give the series another try before I write it off and give up.In this story, Jupiter, Pete, and Bob are called to the apartment of an elderly man. His valuable glass dog, a replica of the "Demon Dog" of legend, has been stolen. While the boys investiga [...]

Offers a nostalgic re-read of a tale involving adventurous and clever youths in a time before cell phones and video games, where young boys would ride their bikes around the community and interact with their neighbors to solve a mystery. This is the first book from the Three Investigators stories that I read. Originally I found the story too scary, as I was very young. Once I overcame my fear, I rather enjoyed the tale and the characters, and collected all of the books I could findories 1-38. Th [...]

A palate cleanser after some books which did not meet my expectations. The plot pulls you right along, and Bob, who is often underused, has his own episode, in which he researches a clue that turns out to be more relevant than it first appears. Some bits of misdirection don't fool Jupiter, and add the kind of hooks that young people such as I was remember years later. The solution to the mystery was not obvious to me, but part of the explanation didn't play fair with the reader, so another thwart [...]

Both of the ??? books I rated I actually read trying to find a certain book I read ages ago. (I didn't succeed) While with the Stuttering Parrot, the book was cute enough to justify spending a few subway rides with it, this one certainly wasn't. Using paranormal activity and even disguising it as something actually studied at an university ('half our professors think she's a loony, of course') is just not cool.

What is wrong with M. V. Carey? She has a very shaky grasp on how to handle The Three Investigators. Under no circumstances should the solution to the mysteries contain any sort of parapsychology or mystical phenomena. This makes two books she's ruined so far (The Mystery of Monster Mountain being the other). I'm apoplectic with rage over this. If she was still alive, I'd write her a sternly worded letter. Since she's not, I'll have to hope her ghost trolls .

I'm not really sure why I decided to revisit my childhood love of the Three Investigators series, but I seem to have a fair number of these books bouncing about the house. I've been trying to get my daughter to read them, but she thinks they are too scary--with invisible characters, who can disagree?

Reread 2009-01 Rating then: 4 ("really liked it")Why I Reread It Then: I got this edition as a gift from my wife on Christmas 2008.Review then: Finished rereading 2009-01-30 12:35:19 EST

kayak lagi baca cerita detektif. Semua alibi yang keluar dari tiap tragedi, nggak standar dan nggak biasa! Maklum lah, pengarangnya kan sutradara. :D Jadi udah biasa aja nulis skenario yang penuh tanda tanya.

The blue crystal statue of the dog was found at the bottom of the apartment pool. Wow! It amazed me very much! It left a mystery one of the apartment residence can be in the two places at the same time! Wow!

I read this for a little nostalgia (I loved the series but have never read this one before) and it was not very good - a bit disappointing.

He wasn't invisible, he just escaped from the set of the filming of The Hound of the Baskervilles and then he ate Jupiter's sandwich. And then he ate some grass.

    Another good Three Investigators book.
